Not at all what i expected.

(A review of Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen)I was absolutely appalled when i rented this film only to discover it was nothing like its predecessors "Confessions of a window cleaner" "Confessions of a Rock star" "Adventures of a plumbers mate" and "the ups and downs of a handyman" This film seemed to have the most appetizing title, yet offered almost NOTHING to write home about. I found my self left completely wanting after watching this film, i was not at all satisfied by its outcome. I do not recommend this to any man looking for a quiet evening in. Stick to the others in the series. 0 comments, Reply to this entry

(A review of The Dark Tower: Gunslinger Bk. 1 (Dark Tower))This is the start of an absolutely huge story, spanning 7 books, 30 years worth of writing and over 3000 pages of work. Steven King started this book at the age of 19 deciding that in his life he wanted to create something better than The Lord of the Rings, something that would be epic, something that would be big. He certainly achieved this, the story starts off in this book as kind of setting the scene, introducing you to the main character Roland of Gilead and giving you insight into what kind of man he is and what he is doing. I found this one a bit harder to read than the others but it is definitely a good book and worth reading through as once you reach books 2 and 3 you will be sold on the series for good. The rest of the books are considerably bigger than the first, but i found myself hooked to the series and read the first 4 in about 2 and a half weeks. You are lucky enough now to have the series already released, it is even being being made into a film/tv series, but when i read this the last 2 books were not out yet and thus i had to wait. Which was difficult to say the least! Once you start this series you will want to finish it, and once you do you will feel like you have come a hell of a long way since reading this book. I hope many people read this so it gains the recognition it deserves and that Steven King gets the kudos he deserves for giving it to us. You will not be disappointed if you read this! 0 comments, Reply to this entry
The End of an Epic Saga.
Posted : 8 months, 3 weeks ago on 9 March 2008 10:51
(A review of The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower)The Dark Tower draws a close to Steven Kings biggest focus through out his career as a writer. It is all of his work drawn together in an epic final installment to his 7 book series which took him over 30 years to complete. The characters in this novel are absolutely brilliant, and this book does them all justice and finishes things perfectly. After reading 6 books you want to savor the last and enjoy it, you want to feel satisfied with the ending and feel that everything was tied up perfectly, and in The Dark Tower you get that. There is no bull in this story, no dragging out the cause just a little longer, it is a difficult journey and this book completes it thoroughly. Iv not yet found a series i can hold up to the quality of DT and i know i wont for quite some time. This is a must read for anyone who likes Western, Fantasy or really any genre. Its Kings attempt at writing his very own "Lord of the Rings" style epic and not only does he do it, he surpasses it by a very very long way. It may be coming to the big screen soon, or possibly as a tv show, the rights have been bought to it by J.J Abrams, so you know it ought to be great. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Wasted Chance at Greatness.
Posted : 8 months, 3 weeks ago on 9 March 2008 10:31
(A review of Johnny English)Rowan Atkinson completely threw his chance at greatness down the pan with this film. In the past he provided us the Joy of Black Adder, and the slap stick Mr Bean who provides nothing more than he promises in just pure silliness. Jonny English though tried to promise pure comedy unlike the 2 above, tried to combine spy action and comedy in a silly way but wound up being predictable and pointless. The plot was weak and the jokes were baron of wit. I remember watching this at the cinema in extreme discomfort as my face cringed so far inwards i was devouring myself. I wouldn't recommend this film to anybody really, if you want comedy and it HAS to be Atkinson then watch Black Adder, if you love Black Adder already and respect Rowan Atkinson, dont watch this. You'll wish you had listened if ya do! 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Classic childrens film.

(A review of The Land Before Time)This film was one of my childhood favorites, a film about a group of child Dinosaurs separated from their parents and forced to get along despite their racial/species' differences. It has some classic scenes and brilliant moments, one or two scenes still bring a tear to my eye to this very day. There is a lot of fantasy in this film but also a lot of values and lessons to be learned from that all children should appreciate. If you never saw this film growing up, i think you could still watch it and see what i mean when i say classic, its much like American Tale in that all children should watch it because it was made with real class. Sadly it has been milked with over 12 sequels since, but this one is the one you need to watch. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Stealing the American Dream.

(A review of The Riches)The Riches is a fantastic program which portrays the lives of a group of gypsie folk who, tired of living life in a pack of travelers, decide to look for something better. Eddie Izzard plays the main character Wayne Malloy extremely well. He is the main person to decide that he must do more to provide for his family and his wife (Minnie Driver, Dahlia Malloy) who has just been released from prison does not really wish to abandon their gypsie roots but goes along with her husbands wishes. Whilst trying to make a quiet get away, some fellow gypsies think that the Malloys have discovered a money making scheme they arent sharing, they try to chase them down and during the car chase they accidentally run an innocent family off of the road killing them instantly. The Malloys, being good folk, stop to help, whilst the other gypsies flee in fear of being arrested. Finding the family is dead, they go about disposing of the evidence to avoid getting blamed, whilst going through their things they discover that the family are called the Riches and that they too were leaving their old lives behind to live in a mansion in a closed off community of rich and wealthy folk. Deciding they have nothing to lose, and going back to the travelers camp is no longer an option, they decide to take on the identity of the Riches and act as them to their new community. After some research they find that the riches have no real connections except a senile mother in a nursing home, and 1 best friend who keeps emailing the Riches asking why they never contact him. The story is cleverly done, the whole family are great actors and actresses, and they make an instant impact on their new community. The story is brilliantly done and the first season only lasts about 13 episodes so there is no risk of things being dragged out. Izzard and Driver really excel themselves with this, i never expected them (well Izzard) to pull it off and they do extremely well. I strongly recommend watching this show, the new season starts March 2008 so you still have time to catch up if you want to watch it "in the moment" during the first run. I think this show will go far if it sticks to the formula used in the first season, or betters it. This was my favorite new show in 2007 and hopefully it will carry on throughout 2008. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
My Favorite Star Trek
Posted : 8 months, 3 weeks ago on 9 March 2008 09:38
(A review of Star Trek: Voyager)Usually Star Trek tended to involve an earth based vessel which traveled out in search for new life etc to interact with, later returning home to restock and refuel, and generally to heal. This made the shows pretty straight forward as each episode they would have a big story, then all go home and come back another day fresh and ready. Voyager was different. The main premise is that the Star Ship Voyager is stranded in the Delta Quadrant trying to get home, however the journey is going to take well over a few decades to complete. The quadrant they are in has no familiar races which can be used for help, so new alliances have to be forged. New enemies are met and there is no "base" to fall back on if things get rough, so all battles are Voyager vs, and all alliances are purely Voyagers. The program follows their journeys throughout the galaxy trying to find ways to make it home, they have a massive struggle as extreme under dogs and this makes the program great. Many fans wont agree that this is one of the better ones but that is usually down to their choice of captains, if Picard had captained Voyager and Janeway the Enterprise perhaps Voyager would of been the greatest sci fi in years, however it happened the way it did, and she makes a good captain. If you want to get into a Star Trek, and Next Generation/The Original are too old looking for you to stomach, this is your best bet, Enterprise the most recent series is great too, but it gets cancelled so ends rather abruptly. Voyager runs a complete course of 7 full seasons and you get a complete story with no need for movies and dragging out. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Monk review
Posted : 8 months, 3 weeks ago on 9 March 2008 08:24
(A review of Monk)What better person to be a cop than Monk the OCD plagued private eye. His affliction means he has an uncanny ability to notice the most obscure faults in a crime scene and use them to solve an entire case. It is a superbly acted show and always has some clever twists or endings to each case that is solved. His assistants often make the show more comedic as they are hired to be his PI assistant and often become his carer due to his mental issues. The show is uncanny and fresh if you are bored of regular PI programs but still love figuring out who the killer is. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Original and Fun!
Posted : 8 months, 3 weeks ago on 9 March 2008 07:31
(A review of Pushing Daisies)Pushing Daisie's is an incredibly vibrant show about a man who has the power to resurrect dead things with one touch and make them dead forever with a second touch. The idea sounds gloomy but some how the creators have turned it into a bright and uplifting show with fun characters and interesting stories. It has several main threads running through it, the main character resurrects his child hood sweetheart and falls in love with her, but can not touch her again or she will die. His best friend is a Private Eye who uses the resurrection power to solve murders for rewards. Each episode usually centralizes around a new crime being committed. The characters go to the local morgue and resurrect the corpse, they can only keep the corpse alive for 1 minute otherwise somebody else must take its place (thus dieing) and so each episode they have 1 minute to ask the corpse as much as possible to gain a lead on solving the crime. Usually the corpse does not truely know who killed them but has a rough idea, then the characters have to figure it out from there. The comedy in the show is cute and funny, its a little bit crazy and sometimes wacky but the fact is there are no programs like this, it is fun to follow and the story progresses quickly so it doesn't drag out the many threads it has running at any time. This show actually feels like someone has thought about what they are writing and wants to actually write with all their best efforts which is unusual on television now days. Watch this for 2 episodes and im positive most of you will love it. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Red Dwarf review
Posted : 8 months, 3 weeks ago on 9 March 2008 07:14
(A review of Red Dwarf)Red Dwarf ran for 8 series' in the UK, mainly on BBC 2, which is a testament to its popularity as this channel is usually meant for reruns or sub par comedy shows which last about 3-4 years or get moved to BBC 1 then get canned. Other than Dr Who (and its spin off) it is about the only worthwhile sci fi show the BBC has ever made. The comedy is mainly based on topics from the era it was made in, the 80's - 90's and they mainly pop jokes about current affairs that have happened or historical things from the 20th century. (Which is slightly odd since this is meant to be set in the year 3000, but still!) There are a lot of good Science Fiction stories and it is meant to be a typical ladz program however there are a very large number of female fans too. This comedy is well worth watching as it is original, witty and fun. It had promise of a film being made, but due to the actors aging it is unlikely if one will ever be made, which is a shame. The Americans tried to remake this show over in the states, but it flopped after one episode as while the writing and storyline is great, the actors in the show are what make it truely special. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
