Should never of been cancelled!

Posted : 8 months, 4 weeks ago on 8 March 2008 08:23 (A review of Futurama: Bender's Big Score)

As if any proof was ever needed that Fox were insane for canceling Futurama this was it. Benders Big Score is a brilliant Film/Long Episode that basically covers everything that the show was about. Time travel is used to an extreme degree which feels like it might get confusing at first but then doesn't really as the story progresses. Its great seeing everything tie in and all the throw backs to old episodes being mentioned throughout. The comedy is A grade stuff and makes up for the time spent without it on the air. There are more films coming out i believe and so this was a great way to get the ball rolling again, i think Futurama gained popularity with age, and people didnt really realize what it was until it was gone, now we have a second chance to appreciate it fully and if this is a hint of things to come i hope it is around for a LONG time!!

Boyhood defined.

Posted : 8 months, 4 weeks ago on 8 March 2008 08:19 (A review of Stand by Me)

This film is basically every young boys childhood summers, rounded up into one big heap and then cast aside and replaced with the definitive summer adventure that can not be beaten. Stand by Me is an amazing journey, about the coming of age of 4 young boys who venture out to try and find a dead body they have heard someone found in the woods near their homes. It is a long journey which takes them some time to complete and along the way you basically gain insight into each of the boys personalities and characters, which are all well acted for children! All people coming of age should view this film as a right of passage, and i feel most would appreciate being given the chance as it is another brilliant piece of film history that must not be missed! Once you watch this film you will feel like childhood is the best part of your life, but that having it as memories is far better than actually being there. All those adventures you had as a kid are gone yet your life has barely even begun .

A timeless classic!

Posted : 8 months, 4 weeks ago on 8 March 2008 08:09 (A review of Groundhog Day)

Groundhog day is just one of those films that writers today can never emulate, try as they might. It has the spark of magic that all films used to have, but which has been killed in modern creations. Everyone knows the story, wether it be from X files, the Simpsons, or what ever other story has parodied it, this is the ultimate tale of living the same day over and over again. Bill Murray is a fantastic actor and thus obviously provides the film with the sparks it possesses, but everything he does in this film just makes you feel like you are witnessing an era that is dead. This film is something that everyone should watch at least once in their life, and then buy and re watch, everyone has thought at one point about what they would do given the chance to relive the same day over and over, and this film covers everything.
Watch it now! If you haven't already you are missing out on a proper film here.

Man, you come right out of a comic book!

Posted : 8 months, 4 weeks ago on 8 March 2008 07:59 (A review of Enter the Dragon)

Enter the Dragon is a film which no other martial arts film will equal. Bruce Lee, the master of kung fu, performs incredible fight scenes and real fighting not your fake stunts men you get now days. This story is classic in the sense that it is your regular spy story where a special op (Bruce Lee) is sent on to an Island to investigate a drugs scandal. His guise for getting on the island is to take part in an international fighting contest which is invite only. The characters that he meets are cool as ice and the big bad guy is a mean mother f*****r with a fake hand. This film is a must for anyone to watch and is one anyone can appreciate.

Better than Gremlins 1!

Posted : 8 months, 4 weeks ago on 8 March 2008 07:53 (A review of Gremlins 2: The New Batch)

Gremlins 2 is an absolutely brilliant film, it builds on the cool story of Gremlins 1 by giving us what would happen if the Gremlins got lose in a genetics lab and accidentally spliced their genes with other creatures or objects. The results? Carnage! The creatures manage to evolve into giant spider gremlins, gremlins made out of electricity, a winged beast, one even evolves the ability to speak in a British accent! The story is a hilarious battle to stop the Gremlins escaping into New York as they are forced to stay inside the building they have been created in until the sun goes down. The characters from the original movie, including Gizmo! Return to stop the monsters escaping into the real world and causing harm.
This film is a classic, and i just know if a sequel was ever to be made it would be ruined by todays special effects and thus i am torn between wanting more of the Gremlins and wanting to see one of my favorite stories desecrated!

Classic

Posted : 8 months, 4 weeks ago on 8 March 2008 07:35 (A review of The Mighty Boosh)

The Mighty Boosh is the most obscure comedy you are ever likely to watch. The humor does not really belong to any kind of genre i can describe without feeling like i am doing it justice or giving a full idea of what the Boosh is about. Just think of random stories, witty jokes, topical with the times, it is very music scene orientated and utilizes a brilliant form of singing they call "Crimping" which is one of the shows most fantastic elements. Its all tongue in cheek and they do not take themselves seriously. Its all harmless fun that can have you in stitches if you are willing to let go and accept it. There is a very large variety of characters in the show, most of which are played by the 2 main actors, Noel Fielding and Julian Barrat (Who mainly play Vince Noir and Howard Moon) and one other who usually plays less integral roles, Rich Fulcher (Main role "Bob Fossil"). Each episode usually revolves around a new character wreaking havoc in some way and causing trouble in Howard and Vinces lives. The best characters are mainly the moon, who each episode offers random bits of wisdom, or anecdotes he has discovered whilst being the moon. The Hitcher, a cockney geezer with solo polo vision, and old Gregg, who likes to drink Baileys and has a mangina.
The show is quite possibly written while high on drugs, no not quite possibly, very much likely. Its brilliant though, if you have a sense of humor you will love this.

One of the top Final Fantasy titles!

Posted : 8 months, 4 weeks ago on 8 March 2008 07:15 (A review of Final Fantasy VI)

Final Fantasy 6 completely stepped up the game for the final fantasy series in my opinion, if you look at 1-5 they are pretty linear stories, following a set path and leave very little to your own creative devices. There is always plenty to do in an FF game but Final Fantasy 6 got the ball rolling on another level. This game has a whopping FOURTEEN main playable characters to it, each having at least some form of back story that could be explored, or ignored, wether or not you wished to take the time to find it. Along side this you also had the option to decide just how many people you wished to take on the end of the game with, adding more challange, as there is a point during the game where everything goes awry and your party becomes separated, and it is generally up to you who you want to seek out and pick to join you in the final battle. The characters are very 3 dimensional in personality considering there are so many to concentrate on, but the character that i enjoyed most was the man named Shadow, who has quite a lot of story if you can find it. This game is a total must for any true Final Fantasy fan and must be played if you have only played 7-12 as you are missing out! The graphics etc are of Super Nintendo quality which is nothing to be sniffed at, but it has been revamped and improved a bit, and there are some nice up to date computerized cut scenes to be watched and enjoyed throughout. This is one of my favorite games, i felt compelled to replay once i completed it as it is on par with the excellency you expect from Final Fantasy.

Brilliant Television.

Posted : 8 months, 4 weeks ago on 8 March 2008 07:02 (A review of Malcolm in the Middle)

Malcolm in the Middle looked to be yet another arduous show about a "dysfunctional family" (the generic format of most American tv shows) But this one actually had a hell of a good story to it and was a really fun show to watch. The comedy was actually funny, the characters good and the episodes only sometimes pushed the boundaries of feasibility. Its one of the few tv shows that has been allowed to run its course and finish when the producers decided to. The story panned out from start to finish and the viewer got to see Malcolm and his family grow from him being a child to him being old enough to drive and date etc. The thing that made it better also was the fact they managed to keep an entire cast on the program, his mum, dad, three brothers, best friend, nan, enemies, nerdy classmates, his families friends. All of these people were in the show from start to finish and thus all grew up in it. This way the show appealed to every age group, you had the really young kid, the 2 teens, the teen becoming an adult, and then the two struggling parents, each dealing with issues everyone at these ages was also dealing with and could connect to. It went on for exactly the right length of time and when it came to an end you didnt feel like it was wrong for it to have, it wasn't rubbish, it hadn't lost anything, it had just run its course like a good book. Definitely a show worth watching if you happen to have Sky or a channel showing reruns all the time.

Ahh here goes......

Posted : 8 months, 4 weeks ago on 8 March 2008 06:53 (A review of Kenan & Kel)

Kenan and Kel, probably the most dire 'comedy' double act in history. This program usually followed the same format every day, Kenan would come up with some outrageous far fetched plan or story eg curing the common cold, and Kel would ruin it by some over the top, very poor acting. I can kind of understand THEIR bad acting as they were young, perhaps not fully trained in the art of dramatics, however the adults in this program were even bigger insults! The Rockmores, Kenans parents, were a travesty! The most cringe worthy acting i have ever witnessed. To make things worse, the shows resident white dude, was even more of an abomination! If this show is still going, dont waste your time, if its ever re-aired, petition it get taken back off the air! A truely awful creation.

Fun House!

Posted : 8 months, 4 weeks ago on 8 March 2008 06:39 (A review of Fun House)

As i said in the Finders Keepers review, it was every kids 2nd half dream to be a contestant on Fun House (The other house being finders keepers) In this show, kids had to basically complete loads of Crazy tasks to gain the chance to enter the fun house and grab cards with prizes on them. Challenges included a go kart race and other fun filled games picked at random. Once in the fun house the contestants had to find as many prizes as they could and then answer questions to win each one. This show was awesome to watch because you always felt you could win it if you applied. I wish i had done, i think kids who go on shows like this and win, often win at life. (The losers usually wind up in crack houses....)

Again, if you were born to late, you missed out on this classic!
